Success Story
Southwest Florida Water Management DistrictThe purpose of the Southwest Florida Water Management District is to manage the water and water-related resources within its boundaries. The District’s mission is maintaining the balance between the water needs of current and future users as well as protecting and maintaining natural systems. The District issues water use permits to its customers and these permits and other regulatory procedures are managed in a database housed in their data center.
In a recent discussion with Dave Thompson, we talked about how the district uses EnterpriseSCHEDULE for Tru64 UNIX to perform many of the database updates and backups that would otherwise have to be done manually. Much of his operation consists of migrating raw data from an IBM mainframe over to an Oracle database on Tru64 UNIX for processing via EnterpriseSCHEDULE. The processing makes the data available for query.
EnterpriseSCHEDULE is so reliable, you can "set it and forget it" - Dave Thompson Southwest Florida Water Management District
Dave has been an EnterpriseSCHEDULE user for many years, starting with the OpenVMS version before migrating to Tru64 UNIX. He was particularly pleased when converting over that the line commands are interchangeable. He also loves the Windows client interface, stressing that it helps new users learn the system. The OpenVMS style commands work on UNIX and vice versa.
As a long time user, Dave has used the job scheduler for everything from system maintenance procedures to producing quota reports and data processing. He has stuck with the product through his conversion to Tru64 UNIX and looks forward to the upcoming HP-UX version as his operations move in that direction. He commented that EnterpriseSCHEDULE is as reliable on Tru64 UNIX as it is on OpenVMS. His closing comments about EnterpriseSCHEDULE were that it's so reliable, you can "set it and forget it".
